Villa Foscari was built by Andrea Palladio in 1558 for two brothers, Alvise and Nicolò Foscari, descendants of the celebrated Doge, Francesco Foscari who in the first half of the 1400s extended Venetian rule amply to the mainland. This construction - erected on the Naviglio border, a waterway that links Venice and Padua, and almost facing the lagoon - is a type of presentation by the great Vicenzian architect to the Venetians.
