Jesolo centre, between river and lagoon

It only takes half an hour to reach Venice from Jesolo Centre and you can feel this proximity by looking at the landscape. In fact, the northern part of the lagoon creeps in the territory of Jesolo between the river and the farmlands.
The wide marshlands used for fish-farming - 'Valli da pesca' - watch over the stillness of an area, which can be now explored with the mountain bike, thanks to special naturalistic itineraries revealing the connection between different kinds of water: that of the river - the Sile, once 'Piave vecchia' - and that of the lagoon.
Today, in the small and quiet centre of Jesolo, there is nothing left of this recent past, during which the village disappeared and rose again several times. The reclamation work took more than one century.

Only in 1939 the work could be considered completed. The exceptionally fertile farmlands wiped out the malaria as well as the desolation and with them also the name that the town had taken from 1806: Cavazuccherina left its place to the more ancient name of Jesolo.
All this represented a rebirth, but now as a sea resort, which revolutionized every point of view.
