In the later half of X century B.C. the present cathedral, dedicated to one of the first Christian martyrs St.Stefano, was built. It was the work of Bishop Alberico and originally was probably a single nave with two side chapels. During the centuries the building underwent various modifications: in XII century the two lateral naves were added and it is still possible to observe traces of frescos on them; 1466 is the date of the Renaissance facade; in 1880 the walls of the presbytery were raised, the apse in neoGothic style was built, and the sacresty on the south was demolished and rebuilt on the north side of the church. At the beginning of the 20th century the current Priest, don Celso Costantini, lengthened the cathedral and enlarged the chapel of the Santi Martiri, enclosing the urn with a balustrade and placing a marble altar decorated with mosaics, in the centre. Inside it is possible to admire various works of notable workmanship: Greek marble fountain transformed into a holy water stoup; decorated panel of Padovanino (1588-1648), reliquiary shrine; ligneous statue of the Madonna and child by Cadorin. In the area of the presbytery are preserved: wooden cross of XV-XVI century; The Annunciation by Lazzarini; frescos representing the crucifixion by Pellegrino of San Daniele (1467-1547); wooden choir stalls of XLV century; the main altar in baroque style. The bell tower was built in 1150 and is Romanesque style with two tiers of double windows and lengthened pillars.
